FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS
Southwestern University
September 22 - October 1
Director: Kathleen Juhl
Scenic Designer: Worth Payton
One of the biggest challenges of this show was only having it in the shop for three weeks prior to tech. With my research on bridesmaids dresses from the late 80s to early 90s and the guidance of my mentor, Kerry Bechtel, dresses were rented that fit the guidelines of the script. Because the women were all wearing the same dress I used the accessories and underpinnings to design the characters. Meredith was the only character who had a costume change that reflected her personal style, so for the other characters style was reflecting in the bags they carried, the jewelry they wore, and the sunglasses they chose for the final scene.
My biggest lesson for designing this show was communication. There are a lot of people involved in a production and as a designer I had to learn how to communicate with the director and the costume shop to have the design realized.
